KADME AS Celebrates Ten Years
Bringing innovation to information management in the oil & gas industry

Stavanger, Norway, 20 February 2012 – This month KADME celebrates its ten-year anniversary. A company that started with the objective of using modern web technologies to manage geoscience data is today a recognized leader in the provision of information management solutions to the oil and gas industry.

Whereoil, the software platform developed by KADME, has evolved into a robust and flexible solution for many information management challenges in the E&P domain, providing simple access to information from a multitude of sources.

During its first five years, KADME concentrated on consulting and completing major projects for DISKOS (the Norwegian National Data Repository) operators. Founder and Director of Business Development Gianluca Monachese, looking back at the company’s first ten years, said, “It’s been an incredible journey thus far, from that first consulting job in Pakistan to transitioning into the international organization we are today.”

Based on KADME’s consulting experience, Mr. Monachese recognized the need to inject modern internet technologies into the information management sphere of the oil and gas industry. “Our vision of becoming the most innovative provider of information management solutions to the oil and gas industry wasn’t taken seriously by many people,” Mr. Monachese explained. “But today most people agree that KADME has achieved that goal with a software platform that solves many information management issues, from those of the small oil company with ten employees to those of the biggest National Data Repositories.”

Using its knowledge and data management expertise, KADME breathed new life into information management for the oil and gas industry, which, thanks in part to the impact of Whereoil and the vision that drove its development, is now modernizing in line with internet technologies. Vasily Borisov, KADME Director of Technology, fondly recalled the three years he spent developing Whereoil. “We had the freedom to believe in something, like Whereoil, and bring it to life,” he said. “We took the principle, created the prototype, and then commercialized it into a meaningful innovation. You can’t do that in just any company.”

KADME also prides itself on being a great place to work and is globally-minded, employing a diverse and talented international staff. Board Member and Project Manager Synnøve Vea believes KADME may hold the record among companies in Stavanger for having the highest nationalities-to-employees ratio. “In the beginning it was difficult to find local Norwegians to fill our openings,” she said. “Now we can be proud of our success recruiting internationally.”

Today, sales and services connected to Whereoil provide the largest source of KADME’s revenue. Managing Director Kjell-Arne Bjerkhaug sees the company continuing to challenge the big players in the market by being a preferred vendor of innovative solutions in information management. “Our target for the future is to keep up with this vision and to further grow the company through continuous development of our products, people and international partnerships.”

KADME’s software and solutions are deployed around the world, and agreements with new partners in recent years have solidified this global reach. In 2011, KADME signed reseller and partnership agreements with companies in South America, Asia and Australia. In 2012, KADME will expand sales in North America and renew its focus on the Nordic region. “KADME foresees a period of significant growth over the next five years,” Mr. Bjerkhaug said, “and will continue to expand geographically and take our technology platform into other industries.”

On 14 April KADME signed a reseller agreement with IPM in Colombia. Whereoil will be sold by IPM to customers throughout Latin America and the Carribbean.

IPM is a Colombian firm engaged in project management consulting in a number of countries in the region. IPM will be introducing Whereoil to companies in Colombia, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago, as well as firms located in other Central and South American countries.

Since 2009 Whereoil has been powering the National Data Repository of Colombia, EPIS on behalf of the Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos (ANH). This successful collaboration has resulted in a steep reduction of EPIS’ operating costs, increased value of the country’s E&P data, and is better serving the information management needs of the oil and gas industry operating in Colombia, as well as the regulatory needs of the country.

More information on KADME’s work for EPIS is available on our National Data Repository page.
