Reference GIS data set
New players in the North Sea oil race and service companies are all starting from public data to build their information collections. And because a large part of the information can be referenced to a geographical location and analysed with GIS tools, one of the first steps of this information gathering is the construction of a reference GIS data set.
So a lot of time is spent gathering shapefiles from different sources, manipulating and merging them into a uniform data set and keeping them up-todate. Very often there is no questioning about the quality of the data acquired and there is no metadata captured during its processing, leading to a resulting data set of poor quality.
This spatial data management process can be greatly simplified by subscribing to Kadme’s NW Europe Reference GIS data package. The package is a full set of public GIS data for the North Sea, quality checked and cleaned by our GIS experts and converted into a homogenised data set ready to be used in ArcSDE or in open-source spatial databases like PostGIS. The package comes complete with documentation and metadata about its processing. It can be optionally extended to include any other data sources that you are subscribed to, like for example DISKOS shapefiles, or spatial data from Spec companies.
Free GIS browser and public information search
Kadme delivers also a free K-map GIS browser together with the data package, allowing you to browse the data set
even if you don’t have any GIS software in your organisation. The information in the dataset is also linked to our search engine to allow you to find all public information relevant to North Sea assets like Wells, Seismic Surveys and Licenses in fractions of a second.
Optionally your corporate information can be indexed and connected to an optional Reference Index within your organisation. In this way you will also see all your documents from shared drives and document management systems linked to the GIS objects with no additional effort.
