Whereoil Search Upgrade

Posted on July 15, 2011

Whereoil customers will be receiving new features with their next software upgrade. We are rolling out updates for Whereoil Search, Whereoil Edit, and Whereoil Map, scheduled for deployment this Autumn. With the current Search and Edit releases, you will find a new calendar feature, breadcrumbs for easy filtering of search results, and newly remodeled authorization services. Most upgrades are automatic, except where noted.

Whereoil Search :

Whereoil has been updated to include new features such as a calendar button, breadcrumbs, and remodelled authorization services.

The Calendar feature will be accessible directly from the main toolbar.

New Calendar Feature: Now users can create calendars directly in Whereoil! This feature will allow you to create calendars based on your own criteria or data sets. You may want your calendar to include reporting deadlines, or raw data releases – it’s up to you!

In our last newsletter we invited all users to download the release calendar we created that allows you to view upcoming seismic and well release dates for the 2011 calendar year. That calendar was a hit, especially with Whereoil users. Now it’s even easier for you to create and view calendars within Whereoil!

The Calendar tab will be located on the main toolbar (see picture). This is an automatic update you will receive during your next Whereoil upgrade.

The new breadcrumbs feature. Here we searched for “troll” and narrowed down our view to block 31/3 by clicking on that feature. This left us with the two desired search results.

New Breadcrumbs (chain filter) Feature: Ever been searching for something and wanted to reduce the results based on certain filters? Well now you can. We’ve added breadcrumbs (chain filter) to create an even more intuitive search experience. Breadcrumbs allow you to build up queries and filter the results based on fields or any other value/property you want to use to narrow down your results. This is an automatic feature you will receive during your next upgrade.

Authorization Services: We have remodeled the authorization services in both Whereoil Search and Whereoil Edit. How will this help you? It allows a more fine-tuned level of control for authentication. Your active directories are modeled for user functionality, which are in turn mapped so that these relationships are externalized in the authorization services. The result is that certain information is available for particular groups or individuals, helping you stay organized and see the data important to your group or task.

This is not an automatic upgrade, as we require information to be supplied from you before the upgrade can be installed. Please contact support for more information.

And for our super technical friends, we are pleased to inform you that Whereoil now works on top of the H store! The RDF persists inside the H store which gives better performance and scalability. Click here to learn all about the H store!

Other Updates :

For our users that want to see under the hood. Here are a few of the things we’re tinkering with right now.

Saved queries: You can already save search results, but future development will allow you to save queries (such as often-used wellbores) and use these saved queries as a criteria for notifications.

Notifications: are deliverable as RSS or email.

License2Share: We now have a connector for LicenseWeb’s successor, License2Share, providing subscribers with Whereoil integration. Use Whereoil to search, access and retrieve your documents, as well as to view categorized results.

We’ll be posting details about upcoming releases of Whereoil Map and Petrel when they are scheduled for general release.
